the true nightmare of my soy allergy, aside from it being in ALL THE FOOD, is that i can't eat chocolate. CHOCOLATE. that's a problem for me. chocolate has soy lecithin in it - an emulsifier that keeps the cocoa and cocoa butter in chocolate from separating. for most of my life i've eaten a minimum of two chocolate bars a day. MINIMUM. (i have a problem ok?) so cutting out all non- four dollars a bar, organic, free trade, soy-free chocolate that ONE company makes has been a big adjustment. after giving up chips, chocolate was my only friend, so now i'm sad and lonely. i'm aware that i shouldn't need salty snacks and sweet treats to be happy, but right now i do. it's winter. jeez.
don't tempt me wonka. we both know that river is PURE soy.
bear, being the bear that he is, is always looking for ways to ease my suffering for the benefit of us both. he's very good at that. last night he made me an entirely soy-free chocolate milkshake with haagen-dazs chocolate ice cream (a lot of haagen-dazs flavours are soy-free!) and home-made chocolate syrup that he made just for me! i love him.
i was left unsupervised with the remaining ice cream and chocolate syrup today... rest in peace friends.
so i guess in the case of my chocolate addiction vs. my soy allergy all hope is not lost - but as for my chocolate addiction vs. my will power... let's just say that's one war i will never win. or that i even want to fight. ever.
love and lecithin,
so pauvre

I had no idea that soy was in so much stuff - that sucks! But you won't have to be chocolate free with Bear there to help you out. I will have to be careful when I send you treats though:)
That homemade syrup also happened to be way tastier than any storebought that I've ever had . . . which is usually the case. Bonus for us!
I love you so much! Thanks for making me laugh this morning - I needed it. I'm so sorry about your allergy. I will work on sourcing out soy-free chocolate to send to you from Canada! This is now my mission as no one, no one should have to live without chocolate.

But do the theo bars TASTE GOOD?
theo chocolate actually tastes BETTER than any chocolate i've ever had, so i'm really not sure why ALL chocolate isn't soy-free! they should send me a case of free samples... :D
Oh man this is horrendous. As a fellow chocolate addict I feel your pain. I'm gonna have to eat enough chocolate for the both of us now. I guess I'll manage somehow.
The act of Bear fashioning you chocolate treats that you can eat and enjoy gets my vote as this year's "Hope for our Species" award of excellence!
Have you noticed a difference in how your tummy feels when you don't eat soy?
wow, it sounds like soy's just being a jerk for no reason! Unbelievable how many foods it sneaks into. Glad to hear you found a delicious soy-free substitute.
I'm so sorry about your chocolate-eating problems. I thank Jebus every day for my iron stomach. However, I must also curse him every day for my tissue paper respiratory system, so I guess they cancel each other out.
Anycrap, I'm glad the soy-free stuff is at least delicious.
tK
