valentimes

valentine's day is one of my favourite holidays. and yes, i'm aware that it's confusing that i hate everything, but love the one day a year (unless you count sweetest day...) that is an unabashed explosion of love themed obligation. pink, sparkles, brutal puns, chocolate (soy-free please) hearts, candy hearts, EVERYTHING hearts are my favourite, and i'm a rabid fox over ALL of it. i have valentine hearts in my house all year alongside various skull shaped halloween things. SO bear and i were thinking about making a new holiday called "hallentine's day" or "valoween". possibly both. "dear congress, it's pauvre again..."

i basically love all card and treat based holidays. i'm sure you've figured that out by now. lucky for me, in america EVERY holiday is card and treat based. every. and they make decorative flags and mailbox covers for every holiday. every. "do you have anything for president's day?" (seriously.)

in elementary school i LOVED making paper bag mailboxes covered in construction paper hearts and paper doilies to tape to the front of my desk. the sweet haul of tiny cards and heart-shaped cherry suckers was better than anything. ever.

anywho... my favourite of all the valentines things are vintage valentines with brutal puns and hilarious/amazing illustrations. again, i'm not a keeper of things, but i've had this old valentine playbook for my entire lifetime. i love it. AND it was printed in canada so you know it's high quality.

"attachments."

inside the book there are both pop-out and cut-out valentines. there are even cut and paste envelopes! seriously, is there anything more fun than cut and paste? no. no there isn't.

the illustrations are so priceless. i especially enjoy the little girl throwing a valentine tantrum. we've all been there.

little valentine stamps!!! i'm dying. "i'll be so lonely if you say no." i can't even process the emotions.

"a happy day is "bruin" for us." so many bear related valentine puns to choose from and they went with BRUIN. pure genius.

i "choo-choo" choose you (and there's a picture of a train.)
love so pauvre

is that awesome VD book where my cute VD cut out came from?! You love me enough to use one of those treasures! You are the best. PS we need to make valoween happen. We can dress up as dead cupids and shoot fear inducing arrows. this must happen.

"brutal puns."
If I wasn't married to you, I'd be proposing.

May I first just tell you that I had that EXACT Valentine book as a child? I unfortunately lacked the foresight to keep it though. :( Also, Sweetest Day? How did I not ever know about Sweetest Day?! I could have been celebrating Sweetest Day for 33 years? Jeeez!
Aleesh, my love for you started BRUIN the very first moment I saw you! xoxox

I think I'd go with Hallentines Day over Valoween --- sounds too much like a medical condition.

I'd also like to inform you that I will be spending Valentine's Day this year with Mr. Jim Cuddy! Aaaaand my coworkers and 2500 of his closest fans. But STILL! He can give me a candy heart sucker any day!

I don't know what that means, but it sounds worse than Valloween.

I teach high school art and every year my Art Club kids make a box and exchange candy and what-not. They talk about it all year long.

Here's my box from last year!

You are the sassiest blog I read.
LOVE IT.

I didn't think ANYONE liked Vday! Also, only in the lovely state of PA do they adorn their make boxes with such vigor. And possibly below the Mason Dixon line...

That book is amazing! If only I had kept mine, I had one just like this I am sure, and passed them all out. My favourite thing about v-day is the chocolates I buy myself.
And lovin' this Valoween!
(I believe i've had a valentine tantrum before)

More specifically, it was printed in Scarborough, so you know it's quality. I didn't know any legitimate business went on in Scarborough.
